Meringue kisses are so simple yet so beautiful! They take a little extra time but use very few ingredients. Their light flavor and texture pair beautifully with fresh fruit or a little chocolate.

  • Pinch of cream of tartar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large egg whites
  • Pinch of cream of tartar

Preparation
STEP 1

Whisk egg whites and cream of tartar in a large bowl either with a stand mixer, hand mixer, or by hand with a whisk until stiff peaks form and egg whites stay in the bowl when you lift it upside down.

STEP 2

Slowly begin adding sugar one spoonful at a time while constantly whisking.

STEP 3

Once all the sugar is added continue beating for 5 minutes until meringue is thick and glossy.

STEP 4

Preheat oven to 200°F. Line 2-3 sheet pans with parchment paper.

STEP 5

Pipe meringue kisses onto prepared sheet pans into about 1-inch rounds, leaving a gap between. (If paper lifts too much while piping, “glue” the corners down with a little meringue).

STEP 6

Bake meringue kisses in the oven for about an hour and then turn the oven off and leave them in the oven for another 1-2 hours to fully dry. Cool to room temperature.

Options

Serve meringue kisses with berries tossed with sugar or dip the bases with chocolate or caramel and drizzle more on top.

Try folding lemon zest into the meringue before piping cookies.

For decorative and colorful meringue kisses add food coloring to the meringue before piping.

The cream of tartar helps stabilize your egg whites, but you can omit it if it’s not available.

Store meringue kisses in an airtight container.
