Cooking your pizzas on the grill makes for a deliciously smoky flavor and gorgeous crust. Great for summer cooking!
Bring pizza dough to room temperature for an hour. If grilling directly on the grate, your pizzas will be easier to handle and cook if you make them smaller. Separate pizza dough into 4 portions for individual pizzas.
Pre-heat grill to high.
On a floured surface stretch or roll pizza dough into desired size and thickness. Transfer to dusted pizza peel.
Add your favorite sauce and toppings.
Prepare grill for in-direct cooking. Meaning, move all the coals to one side for charcoal style grill or turn burners off on one side for propane style grill.
Carefully slide pizza onto grates to the side of grill with no flame. (Indirect cooking). Cover with the lid. Rotate pizza every minute so crust gets exposure to the flame for slight charring. Pizza will take about 2-3 minutes total to cook.
A pizza stone is also a great and easy method for grilling pizza, especially if a large pizza is desired. Preheat stone on the grill over medium high heat. Slide prepped pizza onto stone. Cover. Cook until cheese is melted, and crust is bubbly.
If using fresh herbs such as basil, wait and top when pizza is finished cooking. Slice and serve! Delicioso!
