Natto, a traditional Japanese dish of fermented soybeans, is savory, rich, sticky, slimy, and to many people, quite delicious! It’s also high in protein and rich in heart, digestive and immune health benefits.
Ingredients
  • 1 package natto (if using frozen, allow to thaw in refrigerator overnight)
  • ½ avocado, diced
  • ½ English cucumber, seeded and diced
  • ½ tablespoon soy sauce
  • ½ cup cooked rice
  • 1 green onion, sliced thin
  • 1 raw egg (optional)
  • Bonito flakes (optional)
  • 1 package natto (if using frozen, allow to thaw in refrigerator overnight)
  • 0.5 avocado, diced
  • 0.5 English cucumber, seeded and diced
  • 6.39g soy sauce
  • 118.29ml cooked rice
  • 1 green onion, sliced thin
  • 1 raw egg (optional)
  • Bonito flakes (optional)

Preparation
STEP 1

Depending on brand, your natto package will come with one or two packets. To prepare, open the natto and mix for 30 seconds. Add packets that are included with natto and mix for another 30 seconds.

STEP 2

Combine prepared natto, avocado, cucumber and soy sauce and mix to combine.

STEP 3

Place natto mixture over rice, and top with green onions. If using, add a raw egg and/or bonito flakes if desired. (Break the egg yolk and stir into the natto mixture before serving.)

Options

Bonito flakes, a traditional Japanese ingredient also known as katsuobushi, is smoked and fermented skipjack tuna that has been dried and flaked.
