Val Di Suga Brunello De Montalcino
A historical producer in Montalcino that dates back to the 1960s. Val di Suga is a distinguished winery in Montalcino, committed to showcasing the distinct character of single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino through its renowned Crus: Vigna del Lago, Poggio al Granchio, and Vigna Spuntali. Each vineyard reflects the different terroirs of the region and the exceptional qualities of Sangiovese. Vigna del Lago First produced in 1983, Vigna del Lago is the historic starting point for Val di Suga's single-vineyard projects. Situated in the prestigious northern part of Montalcino, this vineyard was one of the first to recognize the area's potential in the late 1960s. Named after the small body of water it borders to the north, Vigna del Lago is renowned for its unique microclimate and soil composition. Poggio al Granchio The newest addition, Poggio al Granchio, debuted with the 2009 vintage. This vineyard features different orographic and geological characteristics, ranging from the municipal hill to the Orcia River. It has established itself as a prime location for Sangiovese, retaining its productive value over time. Named after a small pond in the center of the property, Poggio al Granchio is known for its colonies of freshwater crabs during certain seasons. Vigna Spuntali Debuting with the legendary 1988 vintage, Vigna Spuntali is our most prestigious and balanced Cru. It spans an area between the slopes of Sant'Angelo, the Orcia River, the Ombrone River, and the Bagnolo Stream. This vineyard, like Poggio al Granchio, is characterized by its fragmented topography and a distinctly Mediterranean climate, which enhances the grapes’ quality. Through meticulous craftsmanship and respect for the land, Val di Suga continues to be a pioneer in Montalcino, producing exceptional Brunello di Montalcino that embodies the spirit of Tuscany.
