Kvarøy Arctic

For three generations, the Olsen family has been farming salmon on Kvarøy Island (pronounced “Kwa-ray”) off the coast of Norway. From firm, flavorful salmon fillets to fun salmon hot dogs, the Olsens and their team are committed to bringing you delicious, sustainable foods that support the health of people and the planet.

With their innovative practices, they’re out to transform the salmon farming industry, protect the seas, and bring the great taste and the many health benefits of salmon to the world.

  • They let their pens lie fallow 3 times longer than required—farming for 16 months and then leaving the water undisturbed for 6 to 8 months, to keep the area as clean as possible.

  • Instead of dragging large nets across the ocean for small feeder fish, Kvarøy feeds their salmon naturally fermented microalgae. So the salmon get their omega-3s directly from the microalgae, and the small feeder fish don’t get eaten, which enhances the wild fish population.

  • Kvarøy also doesn’t use any antibiotics, and their production process enables a lower carbon footprint than even organic salmon.

Water covers more than half of our planet, so we applaud companies like Kvarøy, who are taking care of this great resource, while using it to feed the world. Try their salmon in your favorite recipes and let us know what you think.
