Innovation meets sustainability
Seattle-based Blue North Fisheries raises the bar for sustainable fishing. Known for their forward-thinking approach, they design and operate game-changing fishing vessels that prioritize crew safety and environmental responsibility.
Line-caught. Curious? So were we.
Blue North’s Humane Harvest Initiative takes sustainable fishing to the next level. Instead of mass harvesting, they use a long-line method, meaning each Pacific cod is caught one at a time. This technique minimizes environmental impact and aligns with ethical harvesting practices so you can feel good about what’s on your plate.
Quality over quantity
Unlike traditional net fishing, which is stressful for marine life, Blue North's vessels use a moon pool – an opening in the center of the boat – where fish are brought in individually. This reduces their stress, prevents the release of adrenalin, and results in better texture, richer flavor, and enhanced nutrition. Fish are then frozen immediately to lock in peak freshness.
Where to find this exceptional cod
Because of its careful harvesting process, Blue North’s cod is a rare find, available only at select locations, including the iconic Pike Place Fish Market. Fortunately, you don’t have to travel far to experience it. We’re proud to be one of the few retailers offering this premium seafood. And we’re even more thrilled to share it with you.
