Dietz & Watson

In 1922, Gottlieb Dietz left post-WWI Germany and planted his family’s roots in America. After nearly 20 years dedicating himself to the art of sausage-making, in 1939, he purchased the Watson Meat Company in Philadelphia’s Old City. Gottlieb’s North Star for his new company: quality above all.

We’re proud to work with Dietz & Watson because they’re our kind of company. Like T&C, they’re a fourth-generation family-owned and -run business founded by immigrants. Also like us, they share a commitment to operating with integrity and bringing people together over good food.

Today, more than 85 years later, Dietz & Watson prides itself on doing things the right way, even if it’s the hard way. That means hand-trimming and seasoning their meat, using in-house spice blends, deep marinating and slow roasting to seal in the delicious flavors. It also means sourcing the finest ingredients, being transparent about what does and doesn’t go into their food, and following time-honored processes and recipes passed down by great-grandfather Gottlieb.

Also like us, Dietz & Watson works with trusted partners who share their commitment to quality and responsible practices. Partners like the Virginia Poultry Growers Co-Op, a farmer-owned cooperative whose members have high standards for animal welfare and whose business model keeps money in the community.

We’ve partnered with Dietz & Watson to bring you a curated selection of products we think you’ll love, including uncured and lower-sodium choices. Because making healthier choices shouldn’t mean giving up the foods you love (and life without hoagies isn’t an option).
