It seems COVID has changed everything about our business. It also has changed what we thought would be a major focus of 2020 – like working on a new store in Gig Harbor.
Our determination to become a member of the Gig Harbor community has not waivered, although it’s on hold for now as we focus on our six existing markets, a couple of which are slated for remodels.
We are considering a new market, much like our T&C Market Bainbridge Island, at the former Thriftway/QFC store in the Peninsula Shopping Center on Judson Street downtown. We are working with The Rush Companies on a potential agreement to locate at the downtown site, with site redevelopment.
As our CEO Bill Weymer said: “We’re still working on it. Don’t give up.”
Originally, we were working on locating a market in an 18.5-acre business park project at Borgen Boulevard and Harbor Hill Drive in the Harbor Hills development. However, we parted ways with that developer in 2019 after several years. In August, a lawsuit against the city of Gig Harbor by that developer, Olympic Property Group, over traffic impact fees was settled. That did not change anything for us as we continue to work on the downtown site.
If you have thoughts on our Gig Harbor market plans, feel free to write us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’re sorry but we are not able to personally respond to every email – but we can assure you they are read! We remain incredibly grateful for the community support.
