Rice Flour Pie Crust (Gluten-Free/Vegan)

  • 1 1/2 cups rice flour (Bulk Foods or baking aisle)
  • 1/2 cup gluten-free vegan margarine
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
  • For a sweet crust, add 2 tablespoons sugar
  • For a savory crust, add 1 tablespoon chopped fresh herbs or pinch of salt


Preheat oven to 350°F.
Place rice flour in bowl of a food processor.
Add margarine, 1 tablespoon at a time and pulse to combine. Mixture should look crumbly.
Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and pulse to combine.
Add sugar or herbs if using and pulse to combine.
Press into a 9-inch pie plate or tin, spreading as evenly as possible to achieve desired thickness. There may be some dough left over, which can be used to patch any holes.
Chill for 20 minutes.
Bake for 13-15 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool.
Fill with desired filling and proceed to bake according to pie recipe.
