Crab and Shrimp Strata

  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup chopped, drained roasted red peppers (jarred)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 1/2 pound crab meat
  • 1/2 pound shrimp meat
  • 8 cups dry bread cubes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup Swiss cheese, shredded


Butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Whisk eggs with half-and-half to blend.
Melt butter in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat.
Add onions and celery. Sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.
Add peppers and garlic and sauté for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and transfer to a large bowl.
Add green onions, parsley, thyme, crab, shrimp, bread, salt and pepper.
Add egg mixture and mix until well combined.
Transfer to baking dish and refrigerate overnight.
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Sprinkle with cheeses.
Bake until brown and puffed, about 1 hour.
Cool for 30 minutes (center will fall). Cut into squares and serve.
