Basic Miso Soup

  • 1/4 cup cut wakame
  • Warm water for soaking
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 medium carrot, diced
  • 8 ounces firm tofu, cut into small cubes
  • 2 tablespoons miso (any variety), dissolved in 2 tablespoons warm water
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped


Cover wakame with warm water and soak for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Meanwhile, bring 4 cups water to a boil.
Add onion, carrot and wakame. Simmer for 5 minutes.
Add tofu. Remove from heat and add dissolved miso, stirring well (do not boil once miso is added).
Garnish with green onions and serve.
