Loving Gazpacho,
Fresh Local Noodles
and Hatch Roasting

You likely either love gazpacho for its fresh flavor and ability to cool you down on a hot day… or you think cold soup is just plain weird.

gazpacho-15-2-copy-copyIf you haven’t had it, and you’re willing to trust us that chilled soup is perfect for a hot August afternoon, try ours. It’s a Spanish-style soup made with ripe tomatoes, English cucumber, cilantro and a dash of Tabasco, and we package it in single-serve cups with artisan croutons. For an easy and light al fresco meal on your deck or in a park, enjoy chilled gazpacho with one of our grab-and-go salads, baguette and bottle of chilled rosé wine.  In the Deli.

Oodles of Local Noodles on Big Board Buys This Week

Tony and Judy Tam founded Wan Hua in 1992 and began making fresh noodles just outside the International District in Seattle. They’re still making those noodles. We get pretty excited when Wan Hua wan-hua-noodles-logofresh Asian-style Zoodles are on Big Board Buys (like they are right now) because they’re so darn good!

They bring us a variety of styles, all with great flavor and texture. Use them in stir-fry and soup, or on a hot day, noodle salads. Choice Angus rib steaks are on Big Board too, so it’s the perfect time to make our Teriyaki Steak and Cold Noodle Salad. You can use Our Own Teriyaki Sauce from the Deli and packaged coleslaw mix, making this dish is easy as a Sunday morning.

Catch a Hatch Roasting

It’s the season for roasting hatch chiles from New Mexico! Four of our markets will be roasting hatch chiles while you wait, by the half or full bushel. Our Town & Country Market in Lakemont and Central Markets in Poulsbo, Shoreline and Mill Creek are hosting roasting events Aug. 25 and 26. All three Central Markets will have encore events Sept. 1 and 2, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Check this page for the roasting schedule, the details of how it works and some of our favorite  Hatch Chile recipes.

Cheese Corner

Our very own cheese whiz, Shauna Howell, offers up a cheese worth discovering.

Cheese for dessert? When it’s summertime and you have a tub of creamy Ricotta con Latte, you better believe it!

Top with berries or fold cocoa powder into its clean, milky flavor. Spread the silkiness on toast and drizzle with honey. It’s divine in lemon ricotta pancakes and rolled with fruit into crepes. This award-winning fresh cheese from BelGioioso is as high in protein as most Greek yogurts and even higher in calcium.

Marketing Manager Sue Transeaux joined Town & Country Markets 23 years ago, working in Bulk Foods at the market on Bainbridge Island. She’s always watching for what’s fresh, delicious and inspiring in our markets.
