  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup finely diced red onion
  • 1 tablespoon dried dill
  • 2 pounds halibut fillets, skinned
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Combine mayonnaise, sour cream, onion and dill. Season to taste with salt and pepper. (Sauce is best made one day ahead and refrigerated until ready to use.)
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Pat fish dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and pepper.
Place halibut in a lightly oiled baking dish.
Spread sauce over top of halibut (makes a generous layer of sauce, like frosting a cake).
Bake, uncovered, for 20-30 minutes, or until halibut is just cooked through and top is nicely browned.
Serve hot.
